Kindergarten Curriculum

The Kindergarten STEM program is designed to encourage an early interest in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math through a variety of lessons and activities. The work provides varied and interesting activities that keep the child’s attention through a hands on approach and demonstrate the interconnections between the four basic disciplines by using them together in each activity

Session One:  The Physical World / Forces and Motion

Students learn about electricity and basic electronics through the construction of an electronic device designed and built by the students to perform some task in the classroom. The device’s use and effectiveness is then studied using the scientific method.

Electricity

Session Two: Electricity

Students are introduced to electricity and magnetism through hands on experiments. Students conduct experiments including building their own electromagnets, generators and electric motors. Electronic control circuits are explored with engaging applications including electric vehicles such as model trucks and drones.

Chemistry

Session Three: Properties of Matter

Students develop an understanding of the properties of various materials in various states (solid, liquid, gas). Students learn to identify and define matter in various states by observation, and how to compare and contrast those materials. Transitions from one state of matter to another are explored with various physical and chemical reaction experiments.

Session Four: Scientific Method

Students become familiar with the scientific method through conducting a variety of exercises in which the scientific method is followed to explore observations. Students are taught all of the steps of the scientific method, and that to go back to previous steps based on new information is part of the process. The class picks their own topics to apply the scientific method to.

I have been sending my toddler here and we absolutely love it! She’s thriving and learning so much. She had met every developmental milestone months early. The teachers are so caring, nurturing, and loving to all of the children. I can’t say enough good things about RMS.

My daughter is thriving beautifully at RMS – I couldn’t be more happy with her progress and we’ve only just begun. The teachers are kind, patient and incredibly supportive of her growth. I’m provided direct, specific and constructive feedback so I can echo the Montessori Method at home and help my baby girl continue to achieve the tasks she SO wants to master. The administrative staff is very helpful and they communicate consistently which is a nice change of pace from our last school. I know my daughter is learning and growing every day — she’s safe, happy, challenged and supported. So thrilled I made the move to RMS!!
