About Reston Montessori
Since 1986
From the moment you arrive at our school, you will feel the warmth and energy of our community. Our classrooms, beginning with infants and moving on to the sixth grade, are exciting learning environments where independence, self-esteem, integrity, and personal responsibility are fostered. Faculty and staff are enthusiastic and engaged as they lay the foundation for motivating a child to love learning. Families are supportive and involved as they partner with us in their child’s education.

Our Programs
Infant (3 months – 18 months age)
Reston Montessori School is pleased to be one of the few Montessori schools offering an Infant/Young Toddler program. We refer to this program as The Nido. In Italian Nido means “nest”. Our Nido is designed to be comfortable and welcoming, so that you and your child will feel at home here.
Primary (3 – 6 Years age)
During this time, the child literally absorbs everything in his environment through sensorial exploration. By sensorially absorbing the surroundings, a child forms his personality and himself. He constructs his mind: his memory, power to understand, and ability to think through impressions gained from the environment.
The core of the Montessori Primary Curriculum is made up of Practical Life, Sensorial, Language, Math, Science, Geography and Art. This includes daily living tasks, such as pouring juice, polishing shoes, sweeping, and buttoning a shirt. To the child, these are meaningful activities that involve caring for himself, other people, and the environment. They also help the child concentrate, expand his attention span, and improve hand-eye coordination.

Lower Elementary (6 -9 years)
At age six, the child moves to what Montessori calls the Second Plane of Development, which encompasses the years from 6 to 12. There are enormous changes in the needs of the child from those of the First Plane, the years from birth to 6. The child is no longer centered on himself and his family but now has a great need to explore society and the world. If the First Plane is the age of “what,” this Second Plane is the age of “why,” “where,” “who,” “when,” and “how.”
“Imagination does not become great until human beings, given the courage and the strength, use it to create.”
– Maria Montessori
Upper Primary (9 – 12 Years)
Upper Elementary students transition toward more abstract thinking as they begin to rely more on books and traditional resource materials as they build upon the work done with materials in the Lower Elementary.Upper Elementary students transition toward more abstract thinking as they begin to rely more on books and traditional resource materials as they build upon the work done with materials in the Lower Elementary. The goal of the Montessori Upper Elementary program is to prepare the child for what lies ahead academically, while addressing the child’s needs as a whole.

What Parents are Saying
A Parent's review on greatschools.org
I love Reston Montessori School. The teachers have fostered a love of learning in both of my children. We have found it to be academically challenging and nurturing at the same time.
A review on greatschools.org
Our daughters have been attending Reston Montessori since September.Coming from a traditional education environment to Montessori learning transitioned them into a thoughtful learner. They questions processes and asks why, instead of adapting to doing the same thing over and over again the same way. Their kind teachers and adorable Director let you trust and believe that everything they are teaching will be carried with them in their future . I would recommend Reston Montessori to any parent who wants to provide their child the opportunity to grow outside the boundaries of traditional education and allow the child to find their hidden strengths and build on them.
